New York’s archdiocese and alleged victims of clergy abuse agree to $800 million legal settlement, second largest in US history
NEW YORK (AP) - The Archdiocese of New York and attorneys for about 1,300 parishioners who claim that they were sexually abused by clergy have agreed to an $800 million settlement of their legal claims. It is the second-largest settlement agreement involving a Catholic archdiocese in the United States (US). Archbishop Ronald Hicks sent an email Saturday to clergy confirming the settlement after attorneys for the survivors of alleged abuse announced it. The agreement will not be final until the parties sign it, Hicks noted.
